One thing I observed ... Whenever I am in a foreign country, I tend to become very apologetic. I'll start using 'Sorry', 'Excuse me' a lot. Also a lot of 'Thank you' thrown in.
I wonder why.
May be, because I feel like a guest, and hence the behavior.
As it is, I am apologetic for no reason. Imagine my state now !
Also, the word 'apologetic' sounds very weird. No?
Americans are generally apologetic. Maybe you've just caught the habit. And 'apologetic' sounds like a bad excuse for a lunar trip. How about 'wallowing in self pity'? It's got a beautiful, poetic feel to it, no?
